Actuate today announced that it provides the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) in the areas of pre-defined reports, pre-defined spreadsheet reports and dashboard applications. These conclusions were published in the Ventana Research Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Benchmark Study, the first study to examine the cost of ownership for a market-representative sampling of multiple Business Intelligence software solutions. Ventana's study is a neutral comparison of BI vendors that evaluated solutions from Information Builders (IBI), Actuate, Cognos, Informatica and MicroStrategy.

Actuate surpassed all participating BI vendors in the following five scenarios:

Actuate finished a close second in the following four scenarios:

"We were impressed to see that Actuate's TCO is lowest in the area of pre-defined spreadsheets and pre-defined reports," said Eric Rogge, vice president and research director at Ventana Research. "The company recorded a significantly better TCO than any participant in our study for those usage scenarios."

TCO analysis enables corporations that are searching for suitable BI solutions to rationalize their decisions based on the ability to objectively assess actual costs for an existing deployment or more accurately plan for a proposed project. IT departments are in a better position to optimize total IT project costs, compare alternative project approaches and make informed cost trade-offs.

"We are committed to providing a single Information Application platform that organizations can trust to cost-effectively empower all users across the enterprise with multiple applications that provide scalable reports, spreadsheets and dashboards," said Nobby Akiha vice president of marketing at Actuate. "Benchmarks such as this one by Ventana Research corroborate our belief that Actuate 7 is the most cost effective platform to reach users both inside and outside the firewall. The benchmark's upper limit was 10,000 users but Actuate's TCO still stays attractively low for user populations well in excess of 10,000. Low TCO for large user populations becomes critical when companies use a single integrated BI platform to deploy multiple Information Applications across their entire enterprise with each Information Application supporting a subset of users."

Actuate provides scalable Business Intelligence Applications.
